I’ve been involved in crypto space from so-called “crypto twitter” since COVID-19, as I’ve got more time online due to canceling of offline campus startup activities in top universities in Beijing. Campus VC (my organization) has been quite busy with student entrepreneurs camps for the past several years.
Some friends in western world asked me how was Beijing’s crypto industry going on. I decided to write a personal note for this, though I’m not quite sure that I’m fully aware all things happening in crypto here.
Beijing is a city with more than 20 million populations and China is a giant news generating machine all the time by its active economic development. I will mainly talk about things interesting to me, by skipping those so-called “industry blockchain projects” sponsored by the government, which are not optimistic in my view.
Centralized exchanges (CEX) are still the main thing in China’s crypto industry. If you want to get touch with Chinese crypto investors, the best way is getting into those telegram groups, operated by top 3 CEX in China: Binance, Huobi and OK.
Those telegram groups are quite busy with lots of FUD but you still can use them as a gateway to Chinese crypto communities. By searching on Chinese search engines of Baidu and WeChat, You can also get lots of hints for what to trace down as well.
Another way for you to do business development in China is talking to leading crypto wallets like Token.im based in Hangzhou Zhejiang and Debank.com based in Shanghai. Both are very good and fully integrated with international crypto industry so you won’t have communication problem with them.
There is a leading data provider like Coinmarketcap and CoinGecko in China, called Feixiaohao.com and you can fell market pulse from browsing its data display and getting some industry value chain data as well.
Talking about news sites in crypto industry, there are two leading and competing website (and Apps) called Chain News and Block Beats. Chain News is quite comprehensive in China like Coindesk in US and usually translate English articles to China very fast. Block Beats are more focusing on original content and trying aggregate some podcasts and videos as well.
The last information resource I want to point out is from some crypto industry yellow pages sites like block123.com and eth123.org. Those two sites’ name are very similar but from different vendors. If you get across some Chinese crypto projects and don’t know what they are doing and who CEO is, you usually can find such information by searching from those websites, as well as from Feixiaohao.com.
I understand those information I provided above is very limited, if you need more specific information in this area, pls just write back to me and I will do my best to help you to get into China’s crypto industry. Thanks,
Jason, we've got to get you and the Chinese internet community into Urbit.
